Discover the Lotus in your Heart – Om Mani Padme Hum

Meet Karuna Bawihtei
Originally from an indigenous tribe in Mizoram, India, Karuna discovered Kundalini Yoga in 1986, sparking her wider interest in the healing arts including Thai Bodywork, Reiki and Reflexology. In the words of Swami Sivananda, “The practice of yoga leads to communion with the Lord. whatever may be the starting point, the end reached is the same.” Yoga manifests itself as four major paths, namely, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Raja Yoga and Jnana Yoga. These four paths can be integrated and complement each other. Karma Yoga as action or selfless service, Bhakti as Devotion or ‘love for love’s sake,” Raja Yoga as oneness through meditation, and Jnana Yoga as knowledge or wisdom.
Karuna experienced an extraordinary encounter with Jesus, the Christ in Jerusalem in 2011. As she was touching the stone inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Karuna heard Jesus telling her “I never died.” It sent chills all over her body. In another era in the 70’s, Neem Karoli Baba advised a Canadian devotee to “meditate like Christ, as he felt love not pain when he was nailed to the cross and he never died.” Karuna believes these saints are still alive to guide us.
Karuna holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia in 1992 and has dedicated her professional career to the field of addiction and the process of recovery. Karuna opened the Red Lotus Healing Center in 2007 with the mission of healing the heart, mind, body, and spirit through psychotherapy, healing bodywork, yoga and meditation.
Karuna currently teaches Kundalini Yoga at her home studio and offers individual therapy and healing sessions. One size does not fit all and each session is tailored for the individual.
In 2000, while listening to Krishna Das, the Kirtan Rock Star, Karuna experienced a profound sense of connection with Neem Karoli Baba aka Maharaji. Since then, she has seen Krishna Das in concerts many times and have felt the palatable love emanating from him from Maharaji. Karuna once took a plane out of Aizawl, Mizoram to Kolkata to New Delhi and then a 12-hour taxi ride to Dharamsala to see Krishna Das. It is all good in that space of love. “Love, Serve, Remember God” has a deep resonance.
In deep gratitude, Karuna hosts a bi-monthly Ram Dass Satsang. Check out ramdasssatsangdmv.com
