What is Kundalini Yoga?
An uplifting blend of spiritual and physical practices, Kundalini Yoga incorporates movement, breathing techniques, meditation, and the chanting of mantras. Dynamic in practice and powerful in experience, it incorporates all the physical. mental, and spiritual aspects of yoga in into one cohesive and integrated system. Kundalini Yoga is about tuning into our infinite potential.
Kundal means “coiled” in Sanskrit and refers to the energy of spiritual potential latent in all human beings. Kundalini Yoga extends the concept of the body as a microcosm of the larger universe. The body is experienced as an integrated system of energy centers. Each center or Chakra occupies a specific location in the body and is related to the health of that area. Each center represents a psycho-spiritual archetype.
As these energy centers are balanced, an evolution of levels of consciousness also takes place. The lower centers or Chakras are related to basic survival needs, including safety, sexuality, and social roles. The Heart Chakra is a transitional point where we develop love and compassion. The upper three Chakras represent spiritual intuition, wisdom, and enlightenment.
As the individual evolves in their spiritual
practice, a specific form of transformational Kundalini energy rises up from the base Chakra into the higher centers, and eventually into the crown of the head, where the practitioner experiences a sense of unity with the Infinite.
